WEST VALLEY CITY — An arrest warrant has been issued for a man accused of shooting and killing another man in West Valley City after the suspected gunman was told to move out so the victim could move in.

Yorfre Gremar Mavare-Mavare, 29, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with murder and two counts of shooting a gun causing serious injury, first-degree felonies; being a restricted person in possession of a gun and obstruction of justice, second-degree felonies; and two more counts of discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony.

On Sept. 24, a 29-year-old man who had recently moved from New York to Utah was found shot to death in the parking lot of an apartment complex near 3300 South and 1200 West. The name of the victim, only identified in charging documents by his initials H. A.-M., has not been released. Investigators found eight shell casings in the parking lot and say H. A.-M. was shot multiple times.

The victim's girlfriend told police Mavare-Mavare had been living with her at the Village at Rivers Edge Apartments. But when her boyfriend, H. A.-M., moved to Utah, she told Mavare-Mavare he had to move out to make room for him, charging documents state.

Since then, the woman said she had observed Mavare-Mavare drive through the parking lot and he also called her several times and banged on her door at least once, according to the charges.

On the night of the killing, H. A.-M. left her apartment to go to a store when he was confronted by Mavare-Mavare in the parking lot and killed, the charges allege.

"Detectives later located Mavare-Mavare's vehicle and observed the license plates had been removed. Detectives learned that Mavare-Mavare had gone to the impound lot after the shooting to get his vehicle back," charging documents state.

Investigators who recently pinged Mavare-Mavare's cellphone believe he has fled the country into Mexico.
