A yellow weather warning for Wales has been extended, indicating that the country is bracing for 27 hours of heavy rain. The initial warning was issued on Tuesday, October 15, and was set to last from 6pm until 12pm on Wednesday.

However, this has now been pushed back to 9pm. The warning states: "Areas of heavy rain are expected to develop and push north across the warning area. The first area of rain will continue north this morning, then a second area pushes northeastwards this afternoon before clearing during the evening" "Many places will see around 10-20 mm of rain, but there is a chance some locations may see considerably more than this over a 6 hour period, most likely parts of southwest England and south Wales. A few places may see 50-80 mm of rain fall in 6 hours. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible in the south of the warning area, with lightning an additional hazard."

The forecaster updated the warning on Wednesday to highlight that "warning area has been extended slightly further east, and end time made later."

After the extension, it means that heavy rain will have affected the majority of Wales for 27 hours.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Matthew Lehnert, said; "Warm air arriving from the south will allow temperatures to rise above average despite it often being cloudy. On Wednesday, parts of southeast England could see 20 or 21C, with the mid to high teens expected across many parts of the UK."

"However, this warm and humid airmass will bring with it a risk of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms. Yellow National Severe Weather Warnings for rain have been issued for southeast Northern Ireland, Wales and western parts of England on Tuesday night and Wednesday. A few places within these warning areas may see as much as 50-80 mm of rain fall in 6 hours."
