TUARAN (Oct 4): Police fired a couple of shots towards a Proton Wira car that were driven by two drug suspects during a ‘cat-and-mouse’ chase along Tuaran-Kota Kinabalu road on Thursday.

Tuaran police chief Superintendent Noraidin Ag Maidin said mobile patrol police were forced to fire at the vehicle as the suspects not only fled the area while driving in the opposite direction, but also attempted to run over the police vehicle in the 9.29pm incident.

Noraidin said prior to the incident, the police spotted the car driving in the opposite direction near a petrol station in Telipok.

“As police ordered the car to stop, the driver immediately stepped on the accelerator and sped off.

“Police managed to approach the vehicle but the driver then tried to ram the vehicle into the MPV.

“Police were forced to fire a couple of shots towards the vehicle in an attempt to stop the vehicle and to protect themselves,” said Noraidin.

He added that the suspects’ vehicle then drove into a housing estate at Rugading in Tuaran.

“The suspects then jumped out from the vehicle and tried to flee on foot but were apprehended by police,” he said.

Police found tools believed used by the suspects to smoke syabu.

Noraidin said both suspects, in their 30s with criminal records, have been remanded for investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
