Aggressive driver causes multiple collisions on Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, arrested after standoff

KOTA SAMARAHAN (Oct 5): A man driving aggressively on the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, hitting several vehicles on the road before crashing on the roadside, has been detained by police today.

According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a call around 12pm of the incident before deploying personnel from the Kita Samarahan station.

At the scene, Bomba personnel saw the man brandishing a knife, and police at the scene had requested for the firemen to persuade the man to calm down and surrender.

After a brief struggle, the joint team of Bomba and policemen managed to apprehend the man. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported during the incident.

The man received immediate medical attention from Bomba’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) at the scene before being handed over to the police.

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Jaimi Husin confirmed the arrest, stating that investigations are ongoing.

It was reported that the man had been driving aggressively, hitting several vehicles before crashing.

Police from the mobile patrol unit (MPV) arrived at the scene following reports and were able to apprehend the man, despite his initial resistance, said Jaimi.

The man is now in police custody for further investigation.
