Penan man killed in motorcycle-bus collision in Samalaju

BINTULU (Oct 23): A 20-year-old motorcyclist died after he was involved in an accident with a bus this morning at Jalan Simpang Empat in the Samalaju industrial area.

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the tragic accident occurred around 6.40am.

He said the incident is believed to have occurred when a bus carrying around 20 factory workers was traveling from Jalan Saberkas Bintulu to the factory in Samalaju.

“The bus collided with a motorcycle at the four-way intersection near MDS Supermarket, Samalaju.

“The motorcyclist was en route from Eco Park Samalaju quarters heading towards his workplace,” said Nixon.

He added that the motorcyclist, a 20-year-old Penan man from Belaga who was working as a security guard, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Bintulu Hospital.

The bus driver and passengers did not suffer physical injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
