A British tourist has died after being “pulled from the water” at a holiday location in Cyprus.

The 62-year-old man was swimming by a beach in Peyia, on the west of the island when he disappeared from sight. He was then brought ashore by other bathers and emergency services rushed to the scene to give him first aid, according to local reports.

But sadly despite the best efforts of paramedics they were unable to save him. The man was taken to Paphos General Hospital where a doctor on duty certified him as dead. Further details about the man are yet to emerge and whether he was with friends or family or if he was on his own at the beach.

A mandatory autopsy will now take place to establish the cause of death, reported SigmaLive. Peyia is a popular tourist location for Brits with rocky headlands and large sea caves. It is around four miles north of Paphos on the southwest coast of the Mediterranean island.

It comes after an 87-year-old man died while swimming in Coral Bay at the holiday hotspot. The man was found unconscious as he floated and he was taken ashore by other holidaymakers before an ambulance was called but he could not be saved. While a 56-year-old British man was left fighting for his life after trying to jump into a swimming pool from a balcony in Peyia last month.

The holidaymaker reportedly slipped while attempting the leap and crashed onto the pavement of his villa. According to reports, the man was taken to the Accident and Emergency Department of Paphos General Hospital in a serious condition. Cypriot media reported that he was sent to the intensive care unit due to the seriousness of his injuries. It is believed the tourist was staying in the villa with his friends at the time of the fall.
