Kamala Harris brands Donald Trump 'offensive' in feisty rant at US election rally

Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, fought back at Donald Trump after the Republican said he will protect women, "whether the women like it or not"

Kamala Harris slammed comments made by Donald Trump as "offensive" in a feisty rant at a rally today.

Speaking in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Democratic presidential candidate said it is clear Trump, 78, doesn't understand women. She blasted her rival in the wake of his address earlier this week, in which he had claimed he will protect women, "whether the women like it or not."

As the US election looms, Harris, 60, called on the US to choose "a new generation of leadership" and suggested Trump was obsessed with revenge. It is believed Trump will restrict access to birth control and make abortion illegal in most US states if he's elected. Harris's comments appear to allude to a 2022 decision by the US Supreme Court which overturned federal abortion rights. Trump appointed three of the justices to the court who formed the conservative majority.

The media personality, who was president from 2017 to 2021, is traveling to New Mexico and Virginia in the campaign’s final days. It’s a risky detour from the seven battleground states to spend time in places where Republican presidential candidates haven’t won in decades.

When Trump appeared at Green Bay, in Wisconsin, the dad of five donned an orange hi-vis vest to deliver an address, which was blasted as "threatening" by some.

He had said: "And my people told me about four weeks ago. I want to protect the people, I want to protect the women of our country, I want to protect the women.” In one of his characteristic rambling skits, he also impersonated a tired staffer begging him not to say the "inappropriate" follow up, in which he vowed to be a "protector" whether women "like it or not".

He continued: "Sir, please don’t say that … We think it’s very inappropriate to say so.” Impersonating himself, he added: “Why? I’m president, I want to protect the women of our country.” Ultimately ignoring the staffer's advice, he forged ahead, concluding: “Well, I’m going to do it whether the women like it or not."
