A 13-year-old girl allegedly stabbed her seven-year-old sister to death following an argument over flushing the toilet.

The teen was charged with first-degree murder, felony murder as well as first-degree child abuse, according to Michigan's Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. She was charged after Taylor Police Department (TPD) raced to a home in the city - just southwest of Detroit - at about 1pm local time on Saturday, September 28, following reports of a possible stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found the 7-year-old had suffered serious stab injuries and arranged for her to be taken to a local hospital. She later died from her injuries. "Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim's injuries were allegedly inflicted by her 13-year-old sister," police said, according to Detroit News. Officers have not released the identities of the victim or teenage girl.

The Mirror has contacted the TPD for comment. The girl's parents left them in the house at about 11:15am that day with the older sibling acting as babysitter for her sister. Detective Zachary DiGiacomo said they became involved in an argument that "stemmed from a not that was placed in the bathroom" about " flushing the toilet," according to Fox2 Detroit.

The victim was stabbed several times with both a butcher's and hunting knife. The network reported the girl suffered more than 10 stab wounds ranging from the abdomen to the head and neck. Detective DiGiacomo added: "All I can say is, it's shocking, and it's very tragic." Prosecutor Worthy said the teen will not be tried as an adult and that she will be held in juvenile detention due to her age.

The State would have seven years to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate her until her mandatory release at age 21," she said, according to network WXYZ. "Hopefully, then, she would not be a danger to others. While this is a difficult decision, given these facts, it is the right thing to do in this case." According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were 801 homicides in Michigan in 2022. The CDC added the state has a homicide death rate of 8.6 per 100,000 people.
