Liam Payne police could pursue two criminal charges after One Direction star's death

by · Manchester Evening News

The sudden passing of Liam Payne on Wednesday night at a boutique hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has left fans, family, and fellow musicians across the globe in a state of shock and mourning. His former bandmates from One Direction expressed their deep sorrow, releasing a statement that read: "We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."

Argentinian police are actively investigating the events leading up to Liam's fatal fall from a third-floor balcony at the upscale CasaSur Palermo Hotel in the nation's capital. In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy late Wednesday night, officers are said to have entered his hotel suite and confiscated several items.

A post-mortem examination conducted shortly after his death at the Buenos Aires Supreme Court of Justice morgue revealed that he succumbed to "multiple injuries and internal and external haemorrhaging as a result of the fall." While the case is being approached with caution as a "doubtful death," Argentine media outlets are hinting at the possibility of two distinct criminal charges being levelled against individuals potentially implicated in the distressing events of that evening.

Prosecutors have acknowledged that they are interrogating five individuals in relation to Liam's demise, including three hotel employees and two women who are thought to have been with him shortly before the incident, in an effort to piece together a timeline of his final hours.

It has been reported by prosecutors that these women had "already left the hotel when the incident occurred."

"Several substances" were found in Liam's hotel room, police reports say, along with whiskey bottles, his mobile phone, laptop, and gathered fingerprints to identify who had access to the room and investigate the origins of the supposed drugs.

However, it remains unclear how any suspected narcotics ended up in the 31-year-old singer's accommodation.

Authorities confirmed that the celebrity did not sustain "defensive type" injuries. The coroner recorded that all 25 injuries identified were consistent with a fall from the balcony, approximately 14 metres high, which seemingly excludes the possibility of "the intervention of third parties would be ruled out," at the time he fell.

Meanwhile, officials are thought to be considering two charges linked to the heartrending incident that unfolded on Wednesday night, with "supply of narcotics and facilitating a place for their consumption," cited as possible legal violations under investigation.

The British Embassy in Argentina has issued a statement acknowledging its engagement regarding Liam's case, explaining: "We are supporting the family of Liam Payne, who died in Argentina, and we are in contact with local authorities."
