Liam Payne's devastated dad 'vows to do right' as autopsy details emerge

by · Manchester Evening News

Liam Payne's dad Geoff has 'vowed to do the right thing' and remain with his late son in Argentina until his body can be taken home.

The One Direction star tragically fell to his death from a third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires last week. The 31-year-old died after suffering multiple traumas leading to an 'internal and external haemorrhage', authorities in Argentina said.

Investigations and an autopsy into Liam's death are continuing, though reports have emerged that preliminary findings revealed that the star had traces of Class A drugs in his system - despite being clean in the days leading up to his death. ABC News claimed that among those substances was 'pink cocaine', which contains a lethal mixture of drugs including MDMA, ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack, the Mirror reports.

Following his death, Liam's devastated dad Geoff flew out to Argentina. He visited fans outside the hotel where his son died and thanked them for their tributes.

He has since vowed to remain with him until he is able to return to the UK. Prosecutor Andrés Esteban Madrea, the lead investigator into Liam's death, has warned Geoff that it could be ten days until the examination results are confirmed and he is unable to bring Liam back to the UK before this.

A source claimed that Geoff is finding the situation 'really tough' and has understandably been left 'heartbroken' following the death of his only son. "But he has vowed to do right by Liam and will not go home without him," a friend told the MailOnline.

They added: "It is the uncertainty of not knowing when this ordeal will be over is what he is finding very difficult to deal with. The Argentine officials say they expect the results to take ten days, but it might be a lot less time than that."

On Tuesday, six days after Liam's death, police arrived back at the hotel in which Payne stayed. After being inside the property for several hours, they removed numerous boxes of evidence marked 'CCTV'.

A source close to the investigation said: "Detectives have all the footage now from Liam’s entire stay - from the moment he checked in to the hours after he died. Police are determined to trace everyone and have also been given a list of all guests as well as visitors. In addition, they have a full list of employees."

The final toxicology results are not expected to be made public for some weeks, but the initial report suggested evidence of exposure to cocaine, an official told the Associated Press, but stressed the initial results do not offer an accurate reading of how much was circulating in his blood when he died.

For the investigation, expert reports are being carried out on mobile phones, computers and security cameras, which the Prosecutor’s Office said, 'require a longer analysis time'. A press release from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office also said that reconstruction of the events, which has involved taking numerous statements from hotel workers and medical professionals, is 'still ongoing'.
