A major investigation into the cause of a horrific house fire that killed a mum is to take place, the Manchester Evening News has learned.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire, which erupted at a house on Ramsden Farm, a cluster of million-pound homes off Round Thorn Road in Middleton, in the early hours of Sunday morning (November 10).

Emergency crews, including police, fire crews and paramedics, raced to the scene at around 4.22am. The woman was found dead inside the property.

The M.E.N. also understands there were a number of children in the house that escaped the blaze but the victim, understood to be a mum, could not be saved in time.

A joint investigation between the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and Greater Manchester Police is now underway to determine the cause of the fatal fire. It is understood that home fire safety assessments will also be offered to those living nearby.

Local Middleton councillor Dylan Williams said on Monday: "Heartbreaking news from Ramsden Farm off Round Thorn Road, Alkrington, this morning. Following a large house fire which was attended by fire crews from all over north east Greater Manchester. My thoughts and prayers are with the deceased family and friends. 30s is truly no age at all.

"I have received a briefing from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, and a full joint investigation with Greater Manchester Police is now taking place into the incident. The exact cause leading up to the incident is not yet known."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At 4:22am Sunday morning (November 10) we were called to reports of a fire at a house on Round Thorn Road, Middleton.

"Emergency services attended, and sadly a woman in her 30s was found inside the house deceased. An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances."
