Forensics scour for evidence as family estate 'in shock' after horror knife attack

Forensics scoured a scene for evidence after a man was seriously injured in a 'stabbing' in Collyhurst on Monday afternoon (October 28). A huge police scene was put in place near Thornton Street North following the knife attack.

Emergency services, including police, paramedics and an air ambulance, were scrambled to the scene at around 2.10pm. The area was taped off near to the junction with Kelly Street and Lashbrook Close.

The victim, a man, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries from the scene. Police were called to reports of a 'serious assault', which the Manchester Evening News has learned was a stabbing.

Videos from the scene show an air ambulance landing on a grassed area beside a residential street. Police vans could also be seen blocking the road as the area was sealed off and forensics arrived.

Officers could be seen scouring the ground for evidence using torches throughout the afternoon. No arrests have been made and an investigation into the horror attack has been launched.

One resident told the Manchester Evening News they saw the victim 'bleeding badly' in the street shortly after emergency services descended on the area.

Local councillor Pat Karney has since demanded an 'urgent briefing' from police and said 'all of Collyhurst are shocked' at the stabbing 'on a family estate'.

"All of Collyhurst are shocked to hear about this horrific stabbing," he said. "This stabbing has took place on a residential family estate. We have few details at the moment but hope the person injured recovers.

"We will be requesting GMP to provide us with an urgent briefing. These incidents always raise fear and anxiety for local residents. We will be visiting the area when we have proper information."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 2.10pm today, officers responded to reports of a serious assault in the Thornton Street North area of Manchester.

"A man was subsequently taken to hospital with serious injuries. A scene is in place and enquiries are ongoing."
