A youth will be in court at a later date to answer to their behaviour Wednesday night in Kamloops when two police officers were assaulted.

Officers were called to a report of an intoxicated youth who had left a home on the North Shore at around 6:30 p.m., Oct. 16, according to an RCMP media release.

The officers spotted the young person near Sunnycrest Avenue and Holt Street. The young person took off on foot but was quickly caught and arrested for public intoxication.

RCMP said the youth became combative and physically assaulted two police officers. They also spit in one of the officer’s face.

The youth continued to be combative in their cell at the RCMP detachment.

Once they sobered up, they were assessed by members of the Integrated Crisis Response Team.

The young person was later released from custody with a court date and conditions related to the assault, RCMP said.
