Turn back time with 49 pictures of Flambards through the years
by Lisa Letcher · PlymouthLiveFlambards, a beloved family theme park in Cornwall, has shut its doors for good. The park, which first opened in 1976 as the Cornwall Aircraft Park and later became known as Aeropark, made the shock announcement of its closure yesterday (Monday, November 4).
The owners have attributed the closure to difficulties following the retirement of some of its popular rides earlier this year, which led to a decrease in visitor numbers.
Many regular visitors saw this as the final blow for the attraction, stating they wouldn't continue to visit for much longer. This follows the recent closure of Dairyland, another family favourite, casting a shadow over the future of family days out across the county.
However, for 48 years, Flambards Theme Park was a source of joy for hundreds of thousands of visitors. It boasted some of the most thrilling rides in the southwest, the addition of the Victorian Village, and hosted various special events throughout the holidays.
As we mourn this loss, we take a look back at Flambards through the years, from new ride launches to school trips and Christmas markets. This photo story contains 49 images - click 'next' to see more.
