Structure fire dies down

Smoke is dying down at the south end of Penticton on Thursday afternoon after a heavy blaze broke out at a structure in Riva Ridge.

UPDATE: 2:32 p.m.

The road into Riva Ridge is still blocked off by RCMP, as crews continue working on a structure fire that sparked on Thursday afternoon.

Reporter Chelsea Powrie noted that while the fire is still putting up heavy smoke, some emergency vehicles are leaving the area.

Traffic along Highway 97 along the south end of Penticton has not been impacted.

Castanet is waiting for information from the Penticton Fire Department.

UPDATE: 2:02 p.m.

Numerous emergency vehicles are at a large fire off Highway 97 on Tuesday afternoon, with multiple structures involved.

Both the Penticton Fire Department and the Penticton Indian Band fire crews are on scene, as well as supporting emergency vehicles to tackle the blaze.

Reporter Chelsea Powrie is on scene and reports seeing one neighbour close to the fire wetting down their property and the brush around it.

There is ash falling and a heavy smell of smoke accompanying the black plumes in the area.

One trailer has already been severely damaged by the flames.

UPDATE: 1:50 p.m.

The Penticton Fire Department is on scene battling multiple structure fires in the Riva Ridge area.

A local in the area, Sheila Cab, alleged to Castanet that the fire had spread to three structures.

A fire has broken out in Penticton's Riva Ridge area on Thursday afternoon, with heavy smoke and flames being seen in the area.

Crews are responding to the fire, and Castanet has reached out to emergency officials for more information.
