The Kelowna Fire Department responded to what they call a minor structure fire on Leon Avenue Friday morning.

The incident happened in the 800 block of Leon Avenue at 6 a.m.

Crews found a small fire on the deck of a unit on the 5th floor. The sprinkler system doused the blaze and kept it from spreading to the rest of the building.

Most occupants of the building were unharmed and able to safely evacuate once the alarm sounded.

One resident who lives in the unit where the fire started was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

Platoon Captain Scott Clarke says, "the fire is deemed accidental and is no longer under investigation.

"All residents were able to return to their homes with no displacement."

The Kelowna Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a rescue unit, a ladder truck and a command unit including 18 fire personnel.
