A man is facing charges in connection with robberies at two Kamloops convenience stores in which scissors were allegedly brandished and used to threaten employees.

On Oct. 9, the Canco at 228 Tranquille Rd. was robbed by a white man armed with scissors, a judge was told Wednesday during a bail hearing in Kamloops provincial court. The culprit made off with about $100 worth of merchandise, including four packs of cigarettes.

Two days later, on Oct. 11, the 7-Eleven on Seymour Street was robbed by a man holding a pair of scissors.

Court was told police are investigating a third recent robbery in which scissors were brandished, this one on Oct. 8. No charges have been laid in connection with that incident, but police are investigating.

Jared Spencer Leach, 33, was arrested a short time after the Oct. 11 robbery, after a Mountie noticed he matched the suspect description. He is facing two counts of robbery and one count of breach of undertaking.

He was ordered detained following Wednesday’s bail hearing.

A year ago, Leach was sentenced to six months in jail after an Aberdeen woman found him standing inside her kitchen.

He is due back in court on Nov. 7.
