Tens Of Millions Of Americans Voted Early— Here's What The Data Is Telling Us Ahead Of Election Day

by · Forbes

On “Forbes Newsroom,” Garrett Herrin, CEO and publisher of VoteHub, discussed early voting trends on the eve of Election Day, with a special focus on the seven battleground states. As of Monday, over 76 million Americans voted early in the 2024 general election.

Herrin explained that “we are seeing different picture according to which battleground state it is.”

Nevada, for example, where there are 6 electoral votes on the line, is seeing more Republicans than Democrats participate in early voting. This contrasts to Pennsylvania, the swing state with the most electoral votes on the line at 19, where Democrats have outpaced Republicans in early voting.

Herrin also cautioned viewers to take early voting data “with a grain of salt” when it comes to trying to predict the outcome on Election Day. “The partisan makeup of the early vote in states where we just don’t have too many results, yes, it’s skewing Democratic. But, the Election Day vote – we don’t know what that breakdown is going to look like.”

As polls close on Election Day, all eyes will be on the race to 270 – and Herrin argued that the Vice President has the “simplest pathway” to win, since “Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania gives you exactly 270 electoral votes if you also win the second congressional district of Nebraska.” But, if any one of the “blue wall” states fall to the former president, “then she's going to need to make up ground in the Sun Belt – and currently there's not any Sun Belt state that VoteHub has and its polling averages where Harris is ahead.”
