Residents on a "usually quiet" residential street in a Nottingham suburb have expressed their shock and concern after gunshots were reported on a nearby street. An investigation is underway after armed officers were called to Blundell Close in St Ann's at 12.25am on Thursday, September 19.

A large police presence, including a police cordon, forensic officers, crime scene investigation units and tactical support group vans, remained on and around Blundell Close until late on Thursday afternoon. After they were called out officers pulled over a car nearby and three men, two of them aged 20 and one 18, were arrested on suspicion of affray.

Neighbours on Brewsters Road, the main road at the bottom of Blundell Close, have spoken of their shock and concern when they woke up in the morning to see a police cordon on their doorsteps. A resident who lives on Brewsters Road who didn't want to share their name said: "I saw the police and the cordon when I came out to take my bin out this morning.

"Then a neighbour told me it might have been a shooting at the bottom of Blundell Close. This road [Brewsters Road] is very quiet but we have some naughty boys on Blundell Close.

"It’s very scary and shocking. I’ve lived here for the past 10 years and this is the first time we’ve experienced something like this in our area. There are a lot of children around, I have four boys so we just want to know what is going on.

"People used to say St Ann’s is a terrible area so when you have children you need to make sure they stay safe and indoors. I don’t allow my children to just play outside on the road. It’s very scary honestly."

Another parent who also wished to stay anonymous said: "I didn’t hear anything overnight and I didn’t even know it happened until I went out this morning to walk my dog. Someone then messaged to say it was a shooting.

"I just hope no one was injured, I’ve heard it wasn’t serious. The area is quieter than it used to be but you still get a bit of shouting and teenagers doing things. It’s scary because I have a 15-year-old son. He’s just nipped out and I was a bit scared to let him go out. It’s concerning."

A man who has lived on Brewsters Road for 25 years said young people in the area have no youth clubs to keep them occupied and off the streets. He said: “I didn’t hear anything. The police knocked on my door to see if my camera had picked up anything.

"The person who is renting one of my rooms said he’d heard some gunshots. It’s been very quiet around here lately. I think it’s an isolated incident. All the people who used to cause trouble around here back in the day have jobs now and turned their lives around.

"It’s probably some young boys doing stupid things. Back in the day, we used to have youth clubs and things to do. There’s nothing now. You give them nothing but expect them to be alright. It’s not possible. If we had more youth clubs around here, you’d see a big difference."

Officers are now looking to speak to anyone who saw a grey pick-up truck in the area before and after the incident. Detective Sergeant Alana Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We are working hard to understand exactly what happened here and are appealing directly to local residents to tell us what they saw and heard.

"We would particularly like to hear from anyone who saw a grey pick-up truck driving in the area in the moments before and after this incident. As our investigation continues residents will notice an increased police presence in the area and are encouraged to talk with our officers if they have any concerns."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 101 in confidence quoting incident 6 of September 19, 2024. Information can also be shared via crimestoppers-uk.org.
