Motorists have until tomorrow to make ‘dieselgate’ claim worth £millions
Diesel car owners could be owed compensation if they purchased it during a set amount of time
by Kieran Isgin · NottinghamshireLiveMotorists who owned a diesel car or van between 2009 and 2020 have just one more day left to potentially benefit from a legal claim.
It comes as Audi and Volkswagen (VW) were hit by regulatory action due to claims that some of their diesel cars contained 'defeat devies' in order to cheat tests done by regulators that check the amount of emissions they produce prior to marking them as safe. In what has since been dubbed 'dieselgate', law firms argue that cars and vans affected produced more harmful pollution that advertised.
Because of this, those affected may be able to receive financial copensations as they could argue they wouldn't have otherwise bought the vehicle if they knoew of the alleged emissions flaw, paid more than they should have if they believed the car cost more due to its environmental efficiency, or if the vehicle itself had to be repaired in order to meet emissions standards.
A number of court hearings over the scandal have already been held since December 2024, with around 1.2 million people holding claims against 16 car manufactureres. Following the previous hearing in March of this year, the High Court set a number of deadlines for new claimants to join the case.
One of the deadlines for customers who believe they have been affected by Vauxhall will end this weekend on Sunday, September 22. Law firm Bingham Long is providing its services with max fees of 40% in awarded damages plus VAT as well as 'after the event' cover contribution.
If you're not sure if your vehicle is affected, you can use Bingham Long's website and enter in the registration number of the Vauxhall vehicle you believe could have been affected. The firm is also holding claims for a number of other manufacturers, including Audi, Porsche, Seat, Toyota, Volvo, and more - however, tomorrow's deadline is strictly for Vauxhall vehicle owners.
