A huge police cordon has been lifted and roads reopened after a fatal bus crash in Nottingham city centre. Lower Parliament Street was closed in both directions from Upper Parliament Street to King Edward Street after a woman was killed in a crash.

George Street was also closed with a police cordon in place. Investigators were seen at the scene after bus operator Nottingham City Transport said a bus was in collision with a pedestrian at the bottom of George Street as it turned into Parliament Street.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 6.05am this morning (Tuesday, October 22). But the roads were reopen as of 2.45pm.

The woman, who was in her 30s, was treated at the scene but died a short time later, Nottinghamshire Police said. In a statement NCT confirmed one of its Navy Line fleet was involved in the collision.

"The collision occurred after the bus had departed the bus stop at the bottom of George Street and was making its turn in to Parliament Street," it said. "The emergency services were immediately contacted. The pedestrian, a woman in her thirties, was treated at the scene but died a short time later."

NCT said it was assisting Nottinghamshire Police with the investigation. "Our thoughts are with everyone involved and affected by this incident, including our driver who is being supported by the company," a spokesperson added.

Chief Inspector Dean Gallacher said: “This was a tragic incident and we are currently working to understand exactly what happened.

“The road will remain closed for some time as investigation work is carried out and we advise drivers to avoid the area until further notice.” Additional witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting incident 72 of October 22, 2024.
