Temperatures in the South West will reach an almost balmy 18C this week, forecasters have said, even as yet another barrage of rain makes its way to the region. Though things have gotten closed over the last week or so, the Met Office predicts waves of warmer air will cause the mercury to rise this week.

Unfortunately, this milder weather will also come with another round of heavy showers. Weather maps show a drizzly start to the week after a band of heavy rain moved in last night (Sunday, October 13) and strong wind gusts of nearly 30mph were predicted overnight.

Temperatures today are expected to reach around 13C and increase as the week progresses, hitting 17-18C by Tuesday and Wednesday. Sunny showers are expected in Bristol and the surrounding area on Tuesday, while Wednesday is expected to bring another barrage of rain.

Thursday is once again expected to be a bit brighter with more sunshine, ahead of more rain on Friday. Later in the week the Met Office says: "Often cloudy on Tuesday with bright spells but heavy showers likely arriving later. Rain at times on Wednesday, this heavy at times. Brighter on Thursday. Much milder than of late."

It comes at the Met Office warns of 'uncertainty' in the forecast brought on by the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane Milton, which rampaged through Florida this week. More than a dozen people died in the category three event, with buildings torn down by powerful winds and flooded by storm surges of up to 10ft (3m).

While Europe and the UK are not expected to face anything like the US, forecasters have warned the after-effects could still impact our weather systems.

The Met Office said: "Milton is expected to weaken to a tropical storm once over the open water of the Atlantic and transition into an extratropical storm after it passes to the south of Bermuda. Beyond this, the remnant is likely to either be absorbed into a frontal zone or dissipate in situ in the subtropical Atlantic. If the remnants of Milton end up in the Atlantic as a weakening feature, it could cause some forecast uncertainty next week."
