IED recovered on Jammu Ring Road; defused - Greater Kashmir

Jammu, Oct 5: Averting a major tragedy, security forces recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), weighing 1.7 kg, on Jammu Ring Road at Gharota on Saturday evening.

Following recovery of the IED placed in a container, the entire stretch was cordoned off and traffic was diverted till it was safely defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad.

   

Station House Officer (SHO) Gharota Police Station, Sunil Sharma, while speaking to Greater Kashmir, confirmed that the explosive, recovered by the joint area domination party, was an IED, weighing 1.7 kg.

“It was safely defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad, which was on the job, at around 11 pm,” he said.

Earlier, a police spokesperson stated, “An area domination patrol by Police and Army on Ring Road, Gharota found a suspicious object, possibly an explosive.”

“The area was cordoned off, traffic was diverted. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called to the scene,” the spokesperson said.
