A case has been registered against controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma for allegedly posting morphed images of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh and Jana Sena party chief and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on social media.

The case was filed at Maddipadu police station in Prakasam district following a complaint lodged by TDP leader Ramalingam, who accused Varma of using social media to circulate disrespectful content aimed at Naidu and his family, including his son Lokesh and daughter-in-law Brahmini.

In his complaint, Ramalingam alleged that the derogatory posts on social media undermined the standing of the Chief Minister, his deputy and their family members in society.

The complaint was lodged on Sunday night against the filmmaker for allegedly uploading derogatory posts on social media. According to Prakasam Superintendent of Police (SP) AR Damodar, the case was registered under the provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

"We registered a case against Ram Gopal Varma at Maddipadu police station (Prakasam district) for morphing the photographs of the present Chief Minister, his family members and Deputy Chief Minister in an offensive way," Damodar said.

Varma, known for his close ties with the YSR Congress Party, has long been a vocal critic of Naidu. His earlier film, Lakshmi's NTR, delved into the life of TDP founder and former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao (NTR), focusing on his late-life romance and marriage to Lakshmi Parvathi.

The movie took a critical view of Naidu's alleged involvement in NTR's political downfall, highlighting the events of 1995 when Naidu, NTR's son-in-law, led a faction within the party that ultimately ousted NTR and became the Chief Minister.
