Gisborne homicide victim named as Wayne Tamahori Dewes

Police have released the name of a man killed in Gisborne early on Monday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Moorhouse said police were continuing to investigate the death of Wayne Tamahori Dewes, 67, who was taken from a house in Tolerton Avenue to hospital with severe injuries.

A homicide investigation was launched after the man died soon after arriving at hospital at 4.20am.

Moorhouse said police were supporting the man's family at this difficult time.
