A man, 20s, arrested by Gardaí earlier this week in connection with the Mary Ward murder investigation in the North of Ireland has been charged and is due to appear in court in Dublin on Friday morning.

The man is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin (Court No. 4) in Dublin at 10.30am.

Mother of one Mary (22) was found dead in her home last Tuesday, but it is suspected she may have been dead for a week before being discovered.

Police initially regarded her death as possible suicide, but announced on Monday that they had launched a murder investigation. Detectives believe she was killed on or around September 25 - and that the suspect fled across the border shortly after.

The PSNI had been in contact with Ms Ward in the weeks before her death. On September 4 she contacted the PSNI to report she was the victim of violence - the last contact the PSNI had with Ms Ward was on September 25.

On Tuesday, the PSNI confirmed that because of the contact with Ms Ward before her death, the case had been referred to the Office of the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland.
