Pedestrian, 70s, dies after being struck by car in north Cork town

An elderly woman lost her life hours after being struck by a car in Co Cork.

Gardai have launched an investigation into a fatal road traffic collision that took place in Charleville, Cork yesterday, Saturday November 2.

The incident took place shortly before 2pm, when Gardai and emergency services responded to reports of a collision involving a car and two pedestrians on Charleville's Main Street.

The two pedestrians, a woman aged in her 70s and a man in his 60s, were rushed to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Gardai have now confirmed that the female pedestrian was pronounced dead at CUH, while the condition of the male pedestrian is reported to be stable.

The scene has been examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the local coroner has been notified. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in due course.

Meanwhile, Gardai continue to appeal for any witnesses to the incident, particularly those who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the collision, to make contact with authorities.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told The Irish Mirror: "Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also seeking mobile phone and dash-cam footage from anyone who was in the vicinity of Main Street, Charleville, at the time of the collision.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station at 022 31450, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any local Garda station."
