The victim of last night’s killing in Carlow has been named locally as Darren Quigley.

Mr Quigley, who had just turned 30, was from the town. Sources say he was a father to two small kids and was connected to the New Oak estate in the town where he was attacked just before midnight. One local said he was well known in the area.

A woman arrested in a follow up operation involving members of the Garda Armed Support Unit was still in custody in Carlow this afternoon. She can be detained for up to 24 hours. Mr Quigley died in St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny early on Tuesday after he was initially treated by first responders at the scene.
