Police Arrest Two Over Kidnapping Of Catholic Priest In Edo

The Edo State command of the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended two individuals over an alleged link to the kidnapping of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Thomas Ayode, within the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi, announced the arrest of the individuals on Wednesday while parading seven suspects who had been detained for a range of criminal activities throughout the state.

Ozigi indicated that the suspects were taken into custody for offences including armed robbery, kidnapping, cult activities, and car theft, among other crimes.

He said, “The command has responded to the unfortunate incident of the kidnap of Rev. Fr. Thomas Ayode by rejigging the security architecture in the area in synergy with the Community through the deployment of a Unit of Police Mobile Force.

“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of the Reverend Father.”

Ozigi stated that efforts are currently underway to rescue the cleric, apprehend additional suspects, and ensure they face justice.

He confirmed that all individuals who have been arrested will be prosecuted in court once the investigation is complete.

It is important to note that Ayode, who serves as the Rector of the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary School in Ivanokpodi, located in the Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, was abducted last Sunday by armed individuals believed to be kidnappers.

The kidnappers have reached out to the Diocese of Auchi, demanding a ransom of ₦200 million.
