Langley RCMP Corp. Zynal Sharoom is asking drivers to avoid the area while Mounties investigate.
“We learned that a pedestrian had been struck by a commercial vehicle in that area. The pedestrian has been transported to a local area hospital with critical and life-threatening injuries. At this time, we would like to remind drivers to avoid that area,” he explained.
Sharoom adds that as the collision involves a commercial vehicle, the province’s Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement Unit will also be attending the scene.
Monday’s weather, described earlier as a “potent” storm by Environment and Climate Change Canada, is believed to be a factor in the Langley collision.
“This is something that we’ll be taking a closer look at as well, but, as of right now, we can confirm, yes. There is a very heavy downpour here in Langley that we’re seeing today with a lot of wind. So, that would be one of the factors.
“We’re reminding pedestrians and cyclists, or any other road users, that are out there to wear some reflective clothing so that you can be easily identified by motorists,” Sharoom urged.
Meanwhile, a second pedestrian was struck and injured in Delta Monday morning.
The Delta Police Department says the incident happened along 84 Avenue at 116 Street. The incident is closed in all directions.
