Overnight road closure after fatal lorry and car crash on A30 at Whiddon Down

The A30 has reopened following a 14-hour closure. A woman sadly died at the scene of a crash at Whiddon Down at around 10pm last night (Tuesday, October 15).

The road was closed heading eastbound before reopening at around 1.20pm this afternoon (October 16). A diversion route was in place for motorists to follow.

The fatal crash involved a Scania lorry and a silver Kia Ceed on the Exeter-bound carriageway. Emergency services rushed to the scene but the car passenger, a woman in her 40s, from Helston, in Cornwall, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Kia, a man in his 60s and also from Helston, suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by ambulance.

Investigating police officers are appealing for information on the crash. They are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Officers are conducting enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. They would like to hear from anyone who may have captured the incident on dashcam footage. Please contact police online or by telephone on 101, quoting log 835 of 15/10/2024."
