The road was very wet and muddy

A road in North Devon was forced to close after a tanker lost control, crashed into a hedge and got stuck. A picture shows the scene in the village of Muddiford, located around five miles north of Barnstaple, on Friday afternoon, October 18.

The tanker crashed into a hedge and blocked the B3230 in both directions. Police were called to the scene and the route was shut near the junction with Whitefield Hill.

According to a local resident, the road was "very wet with puddles and lots of liquid mud" on Friday afternoon. The tanker was recovered before the road reopened at around 4pm.

A number of flood alerts and warnings were in place across the county at the end of last week as heavy rain swept in. The Environment Agency (EA) urged people to avoid low-lying roads and land.
