Casualties suffer smoke inhalation injuries as TV catches fire in Torquay

Three people were treated for smoke inhalation after a TV caught fire at a home in Torquay. Firefighters were called to the blaze in Victoria Road at around 7.15pm yesterday, Sunday, October 20.

Crews from Torquay and Paignton rushed to the scene and found the fire located on the first floor of the property. They used breathing apparatus and a safety jet to extinguish the flames.

Paramedics were also called as three casualties were suffering from smoke inhalation. They were treated at the scene before fire crews left at around 11.30pm.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire control were called to a report of a television on fire at Victoria Road Torquay three appliances were mobilised two from Torquay, one from Paignton with the aerial ladder platform from Torquay and a supervisor officer.

"On arrival at the scene crew confirmed fire in the first floor room of a residential property and got to work using breathing apparatus and a safety jet."

They said: "Crew have dealt with a fire on the first floor residential of a two storey mid terrace property, two breathing apparatus, one safety jet, one thermal image camera, positive pressure ventilation and a gas alarm used. Three casualties suffering from smoke inhalation dealt with by ambulance crew."
