Car burnt out after firefighters called to extinguish blaze on Gosforth street

Firefighters were called to the cars on fire just after 10pm on Thursday

A car was left completely burnt out despite the efforts of firefighters to extinguish two cars on fire in Gosforth.

The fire service was called just after 10pm on Thursday to reports of a two-car fire on North Cross Street behind Gosforth High Street. There were no reported injuries.

Images of the scene show fire damage throughout the interior of one of the cars. The second car has fire damage to the bonnet and front right wheel.

A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We can confirm that on Thursday evening (October 17), an appliance from Gosforth Community Fire Station was dispatched to a multiple vehicle fire in Gosforth, Newcastle.

"A two-car vehicle fire was reported to control at 10.04 pm, with the second car being involved due to parking in close proximity to the initial vehicle.

"Firefighters used hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fires. No persons were reported injured.

"The firefighters isolated the batteries on both cars before leaving the scene at 10.32 pm after the fires were safely extinguished."
