Man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on 17-year-old in County Durham Park
by Daniel Hall · ChronicleLiveA man has been arrested after a teenager reported being sexually assaulted in a County Durham park.
A 17-year-old girl was walking through South Park, in Darlington, at around 4.45pm on Saturday afternoon when she was allegedly approached by a man who tried to assault her. The teenager managed to get away from the suspect and call 999 for help.
A 42-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and remains in police custody. Durham Constabulary has issued an appeal for more information, and would like to hear from anyone who may have CCTV of the area around the time of the incident, or anyone else who was in the park at the time.
It is believed there were lots of people in the park of the time. The Darlington Neighbourhood Policing Team is carrying out extra patrols and house-to-house enquiries in the area.
Durham Constabulary has urged anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident reference number 282 of November 2.
