Four released on bail after alleged threats in Leam Lane flats

Four people have been released on bail several hours after armed police were deployed to a residential street.

At around 9am on Wednesday, armed officers responded a report that a number of people had entered a property in Ridgeway, on Gateshead's Leam Lane estate and "made threats" to those inside.

The report sparked a huge police presence on the street and a helicopter could also be seen hovering above.

Northumbria Police later confirmed that four people had been arrested in connection with the incident. All four have since been released on bail and enquires are ongoing, police confirmed.
