Man charged with attempted rape and false imprisonment in County Durham park

A 17-year-old girl was walking through South Park, in Darlington, at around 4.45pm on Saturday afternoon when she was allegedly approached by a man who tried to assault her. The teenager managed to get away from the suspect and call 999 for help.
Durham Constabulary issued an appeal for information on Sunday after the arrest of a 42-year-old man. The force has now confirmed the man, Malcolm Thomas Clixby, has been charged with attempted rape, sexual assault and false imprisonment.
Clixby, of Darlington, is expected to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court this morning.
