Egypt, Spain call for enhancing int’l efforts towards regional de-escalation, two-state solution

CAIRO – 17 October 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Spain's Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares emphasized the need to bolster current international endeavors aimed at halting escalation in the region and achieving comprehensive calm in Gaza and Lebanon.

As they held a meeting in Cairo on Thursday, Sisi and Albares called for regional de-escalation to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation and to pave the way for the peace track based on the two-state solution.

Albares reaffirmed Spain's unwavering support for Egypt's relentless efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

The Spanish foreign minister also underscored Egypt's pivotal role in preventing the spread of conflict in the region and advancing efforts towards peace and stability.

Sisi praised Spain's constructive stance on regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, evident in the continuous coordination between the two nations and their shared vision for achieving peace in the region.

The meeting was attended by the accompanying delegation of the Spanish minister, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty, and Spain's Ambassador to Cairo Alvaro Iranzo.

In addition to discussing regional developments, Egyptian and Spanish officials explored ways to strengthen the two countries’ relations, particularly in economic cooperation and investments.

The Spanish side reiterated their dedication to enhancing their involvement in Egypt's development through the contributions of Spanish companies in various sectors, such as manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation.
