Egyptian FM urges de-escalation in phone call with Iranian counterpart
by Noha El Tawil · EgyptTodayCAIRO – 4 November 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdel Aty made Sunday evening a phone call to his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi to discuss the crises engulfing the Middle East as well as the updates of the Israeli military operations in Lebanon and Gaza Strip.
The Egyptian minister stressed the necessity that all parties take steps that would accomplish de-escalation and pacification. He also warned of slipping into a regional war, imperiling its people.
The minister reiterated Egypt's condemnation to all unilateral and provocative acts that undermine the stability of the Middle East, according to a statement released Monday.
Regarding Lebanon, Minister Abdel Aty underscored the salience of empowering state institutions, and electing a president without foreign interference. As for Gaza Strip, he presented the efforts deployed alongside the United States and Qatar to broker a deal on a ceasefire, prisoner-hostage exchange, and unconditional delivery of humanitarian and medical aid.
