Egypt-Saudi joint statement highlights determination to intensify efforts to preserve int'l peace

CAIRO - 16 October 2024: The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic published on his official Facebook page a joint statement as the visit of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Egypt concluded.
 
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Tuesday at Cairo International Airport Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister.
 
The President accompanied the honorable guest to Al-Ittihadiya Palace, where the official reception ceremony was held.
 
President Sisi and Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman have touched on different aspects during their meeting, including:
 
 
International affairs
 
Both sides renewed their determination to continue coordination and intensify efforts aimed at preserving international peace and security. They exchanged views on issues of concern to the two countries on the regional and international arenas, and affirmed their determination to enhance cooperation and joint coordination towards them.
 
 
Yemen
 
On the Yemeni issue, the two sides affirmed their full support for the Presidential Leadership Council in the Republic of Yemen, and the importance of full support for international and regional efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis, in a way that guarantees the unity and stability of their country for the brotherly Yemeni people.
 
The Egyptian side praised the Saudi Kingdom's efforts and numerous initiatives aimed at encouraging dialogue and reconciliation between the Yemeni parties, and its role in providing and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to all regions of Yemen.
 
The Saudi side praised the Egyptian role in reducing escalation in the region, and supporting efforts for a comprehensive settlement of the Yemeni crisis in a way that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people. The two sides stressed the importance of the Houthis' positive engagement with efforts aimed at ending the Yemeni crisis, and seriously dealing with peace initiatives and efforts.
 
 
Red Sea region
 
The two sides stressed the importance of maintaining the security and stability of the Red Sea region, where freedom of navigation is an international requirement due to its connection to the interests of the entire world. They further highlighted the necessity of sparing the region from any risks or threats that affect regional and international security and peace, global trade movement and the international economy.
 
 
Somalia
 
On the Somali issue, the two sides praised the reforms achieved by Somalia under the leadership of His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, and the restoration of security and stability in many Somali regions. They also agreed on the importance of the international community's support for Somalia in order to complete the mission of eliminating terrorism.
 
They also welcomed the UN Security Council's decision to lift the arms embargo on Somalia, and the decision to exempt Somalia from its debts by international creditors.
 
Both Sisi and Mohamed Bin Salman affirmed the decision of the League of Arab States dated 17/1/2024 regarding supporting the security, stability, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia, and stressed the need to adhere to the principles of good neighborliness, prevail wisdom and spare the region the risks of tension and conflicts.
 
For his side, Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman welcomed the Egyptian efforts to support stability and preserve the unity and integrity of the Somali territories, and commended the Egyptian offer to participate in the new peacekeeping mission in Somalia, which would contribute to restoring security and peace and achieving the aspirations of the Somali people.
