Insurance staff docked over alleged N8m customer fraud
by Adeola Balogun · The Eagle OnlineA 38-year-old Akasoro Abayomi, staff of Mutual Benefit Life Insurance, Ibadan, was on Wednesday docked in a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ibadan, over an alleged N8 million customer fraud.
Abayomi was facing two counts of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between 2021 and 2024 at the aforementioned company.
Amusan said the defendant obtained the money from a customer with the pretext to remit it to the company’s account but failed to do so.
He said the defendant rather converted the money to his personal use and committed offences contrary to Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Court President, Sukurat Yusuf, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N7 million with two reliable sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until October 18 for hearing.
