A police officer has been arrested and accused of 'dangerous driving' after a man was left fighting for his life in a horrific crash in Rochdale.

Police were called to reports of the serious collision on Yorkshire Street in Rochdale at around 11pm on Friday (November 1).

The victim, a 42-year-old man, was struck as he was trying to cross the road. He remains in hospital and is seriously injured, police said.

Enquiries have so far suggested three vehicles were travelling together along Yorkshire Street when the man was hit. Two vehicles suspected to have been involved are a blue Mercedes C250 and a silver Mini Cooper S Sport.

An off-duty police officer currently serving with Greater Manchester Police was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
