UPDATE | Five men killed in attack at football match in Kingston, police say

Five men were shot and killed during an attack at a football match in Pleasant Heights, Rockfort in Kingston earlier this evening, the police are reporting. 

Superintendent Tommilee Chambers, head of the Kingston Eastern police said the shooting happened sometime after 8 p.m. at a "friendly football match". 

The number of injured persons remains unclear.

Earlier, Assistant Commissioner Donovan Graham, head of police Area 4, the region under which Kingston falls, said several persons  have been rushed to hospital.

Pleasant Heights, formerly known as Wareika Hills, has a violent past, particularly driven by deadly gang feuds.

Superintendent Chambers said it was took early to determine whether this latest incident is linked to a gang warfare. But she said progress was being made to reduce crime and violence in the area.

"We have been having peace in the Rockfort community for over two years," she said.
