ITV This Morning viewers stunned over mum pressurising daughter to stop breastfeeding

Viewers did not hold back with their views over the caller's breastfeeding dilemma as Holly and Phil give advice

This Morning viewers have not held back after a mother shared her breastfeeding dilemma on Wednesday's show. Caller Daisy spoke to hosts Holly and Phil along with agony aunt Deidre Sanders. They sympathised with the mum after she explained the tough situation she found herself in with her own parents.

Introducing the segment, Holly asked: “So this is about breastfeeding and is it your mum that is pressurising you to stop?" While Daisy explained: "Yeah, well my parents in general. They are very anti-breastfeeding. I couldn’t breastfeed my first child and I suffered quite badly with postnatal depression and, this time round, I’ve tried feeding and it’s going really well but my parents are just totally against it."

But Phil could not get his head around it. “I’m sorry Daisy, why?" he asked. “Your mother is against breastfeeding? Well how wrong could you be?" Deidre agreed: "I know. You’ve also got a wedding on the horizon haven’t you and she’s desperate that you shouldn’t be still breastfeeding by the time of the wedding?

"Daisy, you can hear us all, we are shocked. Stand your ground. That is a wonderful bond between you and your baby. Please, please just stand your ground. Say to your mum, I’m sorry if this is spoiling your fantasy of a wedding day but this is my wedding, this is my baby.

"Most people at your wedding will be thrilled that you are feeding your baby at your wedding. It’s a lovely thing to do and, if you need some support from outside, National Childbirth Trust on our website, they will support you."

Keen to give her view, Holly added: “Funny isn’t it - just because it’s your mum and you are a fully grown adult with a child of your own, [you] revert and sort of become the child. You feel you are being told off and you feel like you have to do exactly what they say but this is a time to stand on your own two feet.

"And this isn’t about breastfeeding or not breastfeeding, this is about you doing what you want. This is your choice and please only let that choice be made by you because, otherwise, further down the line, I think this will come back to haunt you slightly."

Phil was not holding back either. “I’m sure your mum is an amazing woman," he told Daisy. "I’m sure she’s incredible but, on this one point, she is so wrong. Do you feel like this has helped at all?"

He later advised: "I think you’ve got to do it and to be hell with that. You’ve got to do what makes you feel good and the bond with your baby." Meanwhile, viewers took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the topic too.

One said: "Daisy tell your mother to **** off. Your baby, your rules. If you want to breastfeed, then breastfeed. It’s got nothing to do with her." Another wrote: "Tell your parents to sod right off Daisy." A third added: "Tell your mother to butt out Daisy!"
