'Final Chapter' of Star Wars Jedi Series Currently in Development

May the Force be with you, always

by · Push Square

In celebration of that most sacred of all holidays, EA Investor Day, the firm has revealed that the "final chapter" in the Star Wars Jedi series, and protagonist Cal Kestis' own story, is currently in development at Respawn Entertainment.

Beginning with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and continuing in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the tale of the former Padawan, Kestis, was always envisioned as a trilogy. Very little else outside of the title's existence, and not even its name, was revealed, with EA entertainment and technology president Laura Miele proclaiming: "Over 40 million Star Wars fans have connected with Cal Kestis in his arc of becoming a powerful Jedi. Respawn is working hard to bring the final chapter of this thrilling story to players."

Can't wait, surely one of the best star wars stories told in recent years.

I've never seen the films but these games have sucked me in, they did a marvelous job of mixing AAA quality story and Metroidvania which I'm always a sucker for. I haven't finished Survivor because of the performance issues but planning to redownload after finishing Lollipop Chainsaw and Dead Rising Deluxe.

I really liked Fallen Order but have never got more than a few hours into Survivor due to the very poor performance (refunded twice six months and several patches apart).

As you didn't finish your last game, I have no interest in paying you for your next.

Just playing through fallen order at the moment. Very much enjoying it too. Haven't had a story game grip me for a while.

Now this is a star wars game, not Outlaws. And not only Star Wars thing, it is fun and enjoyable game. The latter is much more important and tend to be forgotten lately.

@jrt87 have you been playing on PS5 ? I recently got the plat on the game and apart from a crash I had no issue with it when updated …
Hopefully Respawn will be able to include even more side quests in the third chapter. And who knows, maybe a new playable character ?

I didn't play the games yet as I'm not a Star Wars fan but I feel like I really want to play Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor.

@jrt87
How long after launch did you last play it because they more or less fixed the performance mode a year ago (it was a long time after launch) by turning the ray tracing off (Im not interested in quality modes as I cannot play 30fps so I cant remember fully, but i think the quality mode wasnt touched so remained bad).
The resolution also went up a bit.
Im very sensitive to framerate and got though it after the patch - all i remember was a little traversal stutter left on the main planet but much better than launch.

Annoyingly I bought it at launch and couldnt play it - this was the game that stopped me pre ordering / buying 3rd party without first seeing a performance review.

DF did an update video September of last year after the patch.

Just completed Fallen order like 3 days ago!

Ultimately a solid if a little unremarkable video game. A 7.5/10 if you will. Just gonna spit some disorganised thoughts if you don't mind
🥱

Story was kinda meh. It definitely takes a while to pick up again. And once it does, you've got an okay ish tale that's carried heavily by its characters. Second sister, Cal, Cere. Especially second sister. Such a fantastic performance. But like I said, it takes a long ass time for the story to pick up again.

Combat was fun but man was it infuriating at first. Don't know if anybody else felt this but the Combat feels so sticky at times. Like I've pressed square, realised I've f****d up and quickly tap L1 to cancel into a Parry...except Cal doesn't Parry. So I have to eat an attack knowing full well that if this was any other videogame that attack would have been parried. And don't get me started on the force bar. Ugh. So many cool force abilities that you barely end up using or string together because the bar depletes so rapidly when you've used just one move😂.

And then the exploration. Was a little baffled by this one if I'll be honest. Best part about any metroidvania is coming back to a previous area with the ability to access once inaccessible places. You're usually rewarded with cool things. IMO the stuff in jedi fallen order is anything but cool. Ponchos. Lightsaber colours. Boring lore. It just isn't very interesting and I felt like I wasn't being rewarded.for exploring if that makes sense.

But despite all the issues with this game, it made me feel like a little kid again😂. Star wars was a franchise that was so near and dear to my heart. And then TLJ happened. The series expanded with like 7 million mediocre TV shows. And I just kinda fell out of love if I'll be honest.

But after playing fallen order? I'm kinda itching rewatch ot, pt and maybe even finally finish the st. Heard Andor's banging so I might just check that out too. Ultimately Jedi fallen order rekindled my love for Star Wars again, so thanks Respawn.

Gonna have breakfast now 🥱

I really liked the first one but I fell off Survivor pretty quickly. Nothing to do with the performance, I just couldn't be arsed playing it at that time. Maybe it being from Game Pass had something to do with it.

Looking forward to playing the remastered trilogy on PS6!!!

Seriously, great star wars games, platinumed both current games and will be doing so with the concluding part too I expect.

@Rich33 @DuncanMcleod

PC, which is why I was able to refund on both occasions. Broken, stuttery mess of a port right down the engine level. Either Respawn are exceptionally untalented developers or, as I suspect, EA forced the game out a year early.

I've heard the PS5 version is mostly playable once they took out the RT several months down the line, but long lost interest at that point.

@Khwarezm89 Same here. Then I decided to play Fallen Order few years ago on PS5 and it become one of my favorite game in this generation, despite the fact I'm not Star Wars fan at all. Got the platinum, same with Survivor. Good story, fantastic gameplay, I really recommend to give them a try

@ApostateMage
I always preferred the original - something about the story and worlds just hooked me in more. Survivor had its moments, but not like Fallen order for me.

@tameshiyaku
One of the best games period. Respawn has impeccable talent. Their games are very much needed in today's day and age of absolute slop

Was the best star wars story in ages and cant wait for it to be continued

I enjoyed both Fallen Order and Survivor. Played each during the launch window and had a good time with them. Survivor is definitely the more expansive and ambitious title, and for the most part that makes it the better game, but Fallen Order had the better storyline and pacing. Both really enjoyable though, especially if you’re a fan of the franchise.

For the next one, I’m hoping they can keep some of the open world mechanics, but tone it down a little from what Koboh was. I think it was slightly too big and affected the storytelling. Some of that can simply be improved by making the collectibles more impactful to reward exploration. There’s only so many hairstyles and droid color palettes that one can use.

This is the kind of announcement you save for the big shows.

This is great - I still need to pick up this title (along with SM2 and GOW:R). That it is a hattrick of good fun to be had I have in store for me.

I enjoyed Survivor significantly more than fallen order. So many quality of life improvements that really made the game more enjoyable.

@McTwist agree, Titanfall 2 and the Jedi Series are amazing. They really nailed action paired with fluid motion.
All the drama and hate about how "unplayable" survivor was around release was blown way out of proportion. I had a great time playing it at launch with just a few minor hiccups.

So after Respawn finishes the trilogy they make Titanfall 3, right? Right?!? 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞😁

@tameshiyaku
TF2 is just incredible.
But yeah, gamers are more critical of developers who always deliver high quality games.
I've seen some crazy criticism Uncharted 4 around the time. Arkham Knight is another example.
Both games have yet to be topped technically imho yet when they were released people were ungrateful in the strangest of ways.
Nowadays we'd wish games are half the quality of those games lol

@ApostateMage fall back on it, you will like the direction it takes. It is just sometimes a bit of a slog to get there haha.

Which takes me to my main thought. I kind of hope the third one ditches the metroidvania elements in favour of 5 times more story and cinematic elements. Using cool corridor set pieces to replace the metroidvania and souls elements. Keep a hub area that changes around you that you have to keep coming back to, maybe for a slight bit of that type of thing on one planet maybe. But the rest of the time make it more like how God of War functions.

I think the best new unlock from Survivor is the Ghost of Tsushima like skill, so a full game with that available intrigues me. Also, if something something happens to something or someone then something else might definitely happen. And it will be both sad and amazing at the same time.

Ahhhhh there is such storyline potential around one specific thing that could make it truly shocking and memorable and it's hard to discuss. But it will definitely happen, eeeeeek

It's hard to care about SW story since it won't amount to anything. And Cal shares with Clive from FFXVI the title of the most bland video game protagonist.

@Sergo

Is it the Jedi stories you enjoy more? What makes these games more "Star Warsy" than Outlaws? A lot of people who are actually playing Outlaws feel that this non-Jedi aspect of Star Wars lore is fun to engage in. I am curious what an ACTUAL Star Wars game is.

@MikeOrator Well, Outlaws for me is just a blue print of any ubisoft game, just with different skin. It is shooting. Just having the saber and game itself made me feel more like star wars. Also, the part where you are a kid and you were learning the force. Such things. Maybe it is just me, but I enjoyed it much more.

@Sergo

Sometimes I feel the same way. Star Wars IS about the Jedi and the rest are just bit players in the Galaxy. But aside from the usual gripes about Ubisoft and their style of game design, I fell that they did get the "mood" of Star Wars fairly spot on. The "used" aspect of the world that Lucas ensured was part of at least the original trilogy is intact. We even have run-ins with the Rebellion and of course the Empire. So I really cannot fault them on the world-building.

Are there better SW games...sure...but discounting Outlaws as not a Star Wars game seems unfair.

If you must be critical of a Star Wars game look no further than the "Ridin' Solo" dance game on Kinect Star Wars...ohh boy...

@Dalamar ah man I think Cal has a lot more depth than Clive but happy to share in the Clive hate lol dude is a cardboard cutout

Best star wars games to date. Cant wait for the next game

The story in the last one went really dumb. The "ah well", level of reaction from the little girl to what went on was stupid.

I'm going to predict Kal will have forgotten all his powers again and will have to skill tree them all back once more!

I'm fully counting on the next Star Wars game to be a stuttering sh*tshow that is improved over time with successive patches but never fixed just like the two games before it.

@Sergo Different strokes and all. I've played both Jedi games and I finished Outlaws this weekend. Outlaws story was light years better than the Jedi games and just more fun.
