The Last Leg star Adam Hills pays tribute to friend as he shares shocking final call

by · Birmingham Live

Adam Hills paid tribute to a good friend of his after their sad death as The Last Leg returned on Friday night. The comedian stopped the new series of the Channel 4 show to honour Helen Canning.

He told viewers: "Channel 4 is halfway through Stand Up To Cancer-related activity so we're going to talk about something ever so slightly serious. I just want to give a shoutout to someone by the name of Helen Canning. Now last year for Stand Up To Cancer Helen requested that I give her a comedy roast on air as a way of laughing in the face of her cancer."

He continued: "Helen and I became friends after that night and in May this year I dropped her a line to see how she was doing. And she answered to say she was in a hospice and could I send her some decent food.

"I was like 'Sorry, what you're in a hospice?' and she said 'Yeah it's moved a bit quicker than we thought'. But she added 'I'll give you a call when I've settled in'.

"The next message I got was from Helen's husband Vince saying she had died. Helen was a huge fan of The Last Leg and while I'm sure she'd rather be sitting on the couch watching the show, I reckon she'd be chuffed if her story inspired people to donate to Stand Up to Cancer."

Viewers were emotional over the tribute, with one writing on X: "Oh wow, I was not at all prepared for Helen’s story," adding a teary-eyed emoji.
