Friends fuming as easyJet holiday in Greece looks nothing like stunning advert

A man who booked a holiday on easyJet with a friend was not happy when he turned up at his boutique hotel in Greece – as it wasn't quite what he was expecting

When a pair of friends booked into a boutique hotel in Greece, they were hoping for the ultimate luxury break.

But unfortunately, they were left feeling less than impressed when they arrived at their destination. The fuming pals insisted they'd been "catfished" by the adverts.

They even took to X to share their anger at the situation. Will Marsden (@will_marsden) posted expectation vs reality photos of the accommodation.

Sold on the image of a stunning sun-kissed swimming pool in front of an idyllic mountainous backdrop, the pair were greeted with gloomy skies, sun loungers surrounding dead patches of grass with a villa blocking their view.

Will captioned the images: "Well me and my friend have been well and truly catfished by this 'boutique' hotel in Greece." And it seems that many agree – as the post has since been viewed more than 2.4 million times.

In a series of follow-up posts, Will blamed easyJet for the disappointing experience. He tagged the airliner and demanded: "Please sort it out, still waiting on a response." The airline has since responded and is working to rectify the problem.

In the meantime, people have been sharing their thoughts in the comments section. One joked: "Sounds like a Netflix series waiting to happen."

Another said: "Catfished Europe Hotels…. Plenty of horror stories!" And a third pondered: "Hmmmm seems to be a small discrepancy there. I'd take photos and submit a charge back to your bank for goods not matching the description."

However, some defended the hotel. One responder said: "We went here 2022. We actually really liked it. It was relative for the price we paid. Was it perfect, no. The grass was worn like in your pic, but the pool was certainly clean when we were there. Here are some pics for context. Not all the positive feedback is false."

Thankfully, Will's trip wasn't completely ruined. He returned to social media to share: "We booked ourselves into a much nicer villa. Lesson learnt not to use easyJet again." His second batch of photos were much like those in which he was sold, with a finely-furnished room opening up to a pool with a view of the mountains.

An easyJet holidays spokesperson said: "We’re really sorry to hear that Mr Marsden is unhappy with his hotel experience. We regularly review the content provided by our hotel partners to ensure it is an accurate reflection, and we’re looking into this case.

"There’s nothing more important to us than providing brilliant holidays for our customers, so we’ve reached out to Mr Marsden to offer a gesture of goodwill."
