Miriam Margolyes says Celebrity Gogglebox was 'bit of a nightmare'

by · Birmingham Live

The Harry Potter star appeared tonight for a special edition of Celebrity Gogglebox for Stand Up To Cancer on Channel 4 at 9pm. She was then on The Last Leg as the show returned for a new series straight after.

But when host Adam Hills quizzed her about whether she had enjoyed the experience, the Australian actress responded in her usual candid manner. Miriam said: "No I thought it was awful.

She elaborated: "I only did it because it's to raise money for cancer research. But it was a bit of a nightmare. I've never seen Gogglebox and I'm certainly not watching."

As with previous Celebrity Gogglebox Stand Up To Cancer specials, audiences saw heartbreaking clips from cancer survivors, and the families of those who had lost their lives as the show raised money for Cancer Research.

Miriam was paired up with Birds of a Feather actress Lesley Joseph on the sofa. The pair have been friends for four decades.

Miriam previously said about appearing on the show: "When they asked me to do Gogglebox for Stand Up to Cancer, I thought, 'Well if I can watch television AND raise money for a wonderful cause, count me in!"

She added: "What could be better than that and doing it with my brilliant old friend of nearly 40 years, Lesley Joseph? She's wise and funny and knows everyone; a perfect partner in crime. Also, Stand Up to Cancer does vital work, and if we two old birds can help towards that - just show me the sofa, I'm all for it."

Lesley added: "What a joy it is to be doing Gogglebox for Stand Up to Cancer this year, as it's such a vital cause and tangibly changes lives. And what fun it'll be to sit and watch some TV with Miriam Margolyes."
