Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has opened up about her struggles being in front of the camera after the loss of close friend, Strictly's Robin Windsor. The popular actress, who is adored for her portrayal of Mandy Dingle, shared how she's been supported by her ITV colleagues through this tough period.

Fans were heartbroken on February 19 upon learning of the death of the Strictly Come Dancing legend at the age of 44, with tributes pouring in from fans and celebrities. In a touching interview with The Mirror, Lisa, 48, who danced alongside Robin in series ten of Strictly, spoke candidly about the profound impact his passing has had on her, especially since she lost her mother to breast cancer 12 years ago.

"So then lose my best friend as well... It was like, 'Why does God take the best? '. It's a pain like no other," she revealed, adding, "He was such a big part of my life."

Despite the challenges, including representing her beloved character Mandy, whom she first played back in 1995, Riley continues to be a mainstay on Emmerdale, having come back to the soap in 2018 for a brief spell before rejoining the cast full-time in September 2019 following her previous departures.

"There have been days when I didn't want to go in front of the camera," Lisa confessed. "I had to paint Mandy Dingle on... put the wig and lashes on and go out there. But it's so painful."

The former Strictly star disclosed that her Emmerdale colleagues have been a great support during this challenging period. "The Dingle sisters all share a dressing room and I can't thank those girls enough", she explained.

"There are six of us. And everyone in that room has been a godsend beyond words. They have given me the energy to keep filming. They have been a great therapy."

Lisa admitted that it feels "so weird" not being able to chat with the former professional dancer over the phone. "I should be ringing him and going, 'Hi babe, do you like my makeup? '. That's what I used to do. I've lost that."

Tonight (November 3), friends and ex-Strictly stars are set to unite for an evening of tribute titled Robin Windsor - The Final Act.

The show, curated by Pasha Kovalev and Anya Garnis, is a tribute to the much-loved dancer. It will be hosted by Lisa Riley and Anton Du Beke. Robin Windsor - The Final Act is scheduled at the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane on Sunday.
