With the critically-acclaimed series done and dusted, Peaky Blinders fans will now be turning their attention to the new Netflix movie in the works - with Cillian Murphy set to reprise his iconic role as gangster Tommy Shelby. The BBC series, which first aired in 2013, follows a notorious Birmingham crime gang in the aftermath of World War I, and quickly became a global sensation.

In an exciting update this week, film crews for the new Peaky Blinders film were spotted around Birmingham city centre. The new film, partly shot at a new studio in Birmingham, is set during World War II and brings back many iconic characters, along with some new but familiar faces.

Filming for the new movie began in September 2024 with creator Steven Knight telling fans the film would be an 'explosive' closing chapter to the Peaky Blinders story. While details around the new show remain scant at the moment, based on what we know so far, there's plenty for fans to get excited about.

What is the plot of the Peaky Blinders film?

Understandably, details around the plot for the new Netflix Peaky Blinders movie remain under wraps. What we do know is that the new film is set during the Second World War.

The last time we saw Tommy Shelby in the Season 6 finale, he was riding off on a white horse, intent on starting a new life. But what does the new movie hold in store for him?

The plot is still very much a mystery, but Knight did tease that the Peaky Blinders movie focuses on an 'untold story' from the Second World War which the Peakys are going to be involved in. Ahead of the movie's release, Steven Knight said: "The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders."

"It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war." The new film is rumoured to be titled "The Immortal Man", although this has not yet been confirmed.

From what we have seen of the scenes in Birmingham, there are trucks that look like to be from the Seocnd World War period being used.

Cillian Murphy and Steven Knight are currently working on the new Peaky Blinders move, being filmed here in Birmingham.

Where is the Peaky Blinders film being filmed?

With the Peaky Blinders series being set here in Birmingham, it's only right that the city be used in the filming of the movie too. In September 2024, production began at the new Digbeth Loc Studios, set up by the show's creator Steven Knight.

This week, film crews were pictured getting ready to shoot scenes for a mystery production - with the canal towpaths along Gas Street Basin in the city centre closed ahead of filming. Oblik Productions, known to be shooting 'The Immortal Man', reportedly the title for the first Peaky Blinders full-length feature, were seen near the Tap & Spile pub.

Parking suspensions were in place in Berkley Street, Gas Street, Holliday Street and Bridge Street. A canal boat, named 'The January', was pictured on the water - the same name of a boat used in series five of the hit series.

In July, film crews believed to be filming the new Peaky Blinders film were also spotted outside St George's Hall in Liverpool for some time.
